I started in September 2016 as the newly appointed Occupational Therapist at Discovery. This was a new and exciting challenge that I was very pleased to be offered, having read about Macintyre’s working ethos and mission statement. Discovery are passionate about developing the skills of not only their children but also their staff. Continual professional development has always been of great importance to me; in maintain a working knowledge and enhancing my specialism.
The Occupational Therapy department is developing well, it has been designed to suit the diverse needs of the children at the school. Occupational Therapy can support children and young people to participate in activities with increased independence. This may be done by adapting the task or the environment, by introducing a sensory diet to promote the calm/alert state or by using specific activities to remove the barriers experienced.
Previous to joining Discovery I have worked as an Occupational Therapist in areas such as the Private Health Care (Mental Health), NHS, and at a Specialist Residential School for visually impaired children.
