Discovery Academy CEIAG Programme by Academic Year

Years 7 & 8:
  • Explicit careers and aspiration element to PSHCE lessons, reinforcing link between emotional self-regulation and readiness for work.
Year 9:
  • Skills Show trip (NEC) and preparation
  • Next Steps in Year 9 PSHCE curriculum in Term 5 (post-Easter), leading into Options Evening

Year 10:

  • Termly 1:1 interviews with Independent Careers Advisor (Work Experience Services)
  • Careers Education in PSHCE curriculum
  • Employability in PSHCE curriculum for Group V
Year 11:
  • Termly 1:1 interviews with Independent Careers Advisor (interview 1 prioritised to link with annual reviews in late-November).
  • Work experience placements when appropriate for individual students.
  • Careers Education in PSHCE curriculum
  • Employability in PSHCE curriculum for Group V
  • Close links with Post-16 Transition Coordinator (Kate), providing individualised input and support to plan for next steps and attending/inputting into Transfer Review.
  • Family Footings Facilitator (Dawn Doughty) working with young people, families, internal and external professionals including Careers Advisor, Post-16 transition Coordinator and class team to arrange and prepare young people for work experience, as well as visits to other FE settings and other relevant services.
Post-16:
  • Half-termly interviews with Independent Careers Advisor
  • Skills Show trip (NEC) and preparation
  • Heavy curriculum focus on Employability and Careers
  • Work experience placements when appropriate for individual students.
  • Ongoing input with Post-16 Transition Coordinator, providing individualised input and support to plan for next steps.
  • Work experience placements when appropriate for individual students.
  • Family Footings Facilitator (Donna Mallabone) working with young people, families, internal and external professionals including Careers Advisor, Post-16 transition Coordinator and class team to arrange and prepare young people for life after Discovery Academy, as well as plan work experience, visits to other educational settings and other relevant services.
