New Term Message from the Principal

Last school year was very successful for us with our recognition from Ofsted in July that we are a good school. This is a great achievement from nothing in April 2015 (no staff, no children, no building) to over 80 learners and 70 staff a little over three years later. The report really captures the essence of Discovery and how, what and why we use our approaches. These are three of my favourite lines.

  • Pupils, staff, parents and carers all agree that the school is a safe place in which to be. All aspects of safeguarding arrangements are strong.
  • Parents speak highly of the school and the difference it is making to their children’s lives.
  • Pupils are overwhelmingly positive about their experiences at Discovery Academy. The phrase, ‘It’s so much better than my last school,’ is one that inspectors heard repeatedly during the inspection.

We are excited about the school year ahead and staff have been working hard over the summer to refurbish the building, plan lessons, prepare resources and read up on the best way to support the students in their class(es).

Our website and twitter account are the two easiest ways to share information with you; tweets are reposted in the parents’ facebook group. This is a closed group that enables you to discuss and share with each other.

If you do have any concerns regarding the school please do not hesitate to contact the class team, family footings worker or a senior leader. This can be via the switchboard 02477 103370, e-mail or on their work mobile. The updated contact list should be on the website. We cannot put right what we don’t know is wrong.

Best wishes to you for the year ahead
